CheckerVIN reviews: every word, straight from Trustpilot

These are all of them. Not the best of them, not a rotating selection — every review published on our Trustpilot profile, quoted exactly as written, with a link to the original beside each one so you can check that we changed nothing.

What customers wrote

CheckerVIN is new, and the review count says so — there are 4 of them, and all 4 are below. Publishing a reviews page for that few invites the obvious question, so here is the answer: a small number you can verify is worth more than a large number you cannot. Every card carries the reviewer's name, the date, how many reviews that person has written in total, and a link to the review itself on Trustpilot.

They split between the two things the service actually does. A buyer says the report stopped a salvage car being bought and a dealer compares it to the one he was used to paying for — that is the product. The others are about somebody answering an email, which is the part no VIN database gives you. Whether that is a flattering picture is beside the point; it is the whole one.

Verify every word

A quote on a company's own website is worth nothing on its own. Anyone can type one. The only thing that makes the block above meaningful is that each review links to a page we do not control, on a platform that timestamps submissions and lets the author edit or delete their own words at any time.

So do not take the transcription on trust — open the profile and read them there. If a review has been edited or removed since we transcribed it, the version on Trustpilot is the correct one and this page is stale.

Why ‘unprompted’ matters

Trustpilot tags every review as either invited or unprompted. An invited review is one the business asked for, usually through an automated email after a purchase; an unprompted review is one somebody went and wrote on their own. Both are real, and neither is fake — but they measure different things. Invitations are a way of choosing when you get asked about, and a business that only sends them after a successful transaction is quietly sampling its happy customers.

All 4 of the reviews on this page are tagged unprompted, because we have never sent a review invitation. That is not a policy we are proud of so much as a fact about how young the site is; if we start inviting reviews, the label on the cards will change to say so, because the label is read from the review rather than written by us.

What we don't do

Review pages are one of the easiest things on the internet to quietly rig, so here is the list of the specific things we do not do, stated plainly enough to be held to.

We do not offer anything in exchange for a review — no discount, no upgrade, no entry into a draw. There is nothing to discount: the report is free. We do not filter. If a one-star review appears on the profile tomorrow it goes on this page in the same grid, in date order, with the same link. We do not write reviews, ask staff or friends to write them, or buy them. And we do not paraphrase: the text in each card is copied character for character, which is why the punctuation is uneven and the capitalisation is not ours.

Leave your own

If you have run a VIN through CheckerVIN, the useful review is the specific one: which car, what the report told you, and whether it changed what you did next. “Great service” helps nobody decide anything. A sentence about the salvage brand you found before you handed over a deposit does.

Reviews go on Trustpilot, not to us — we have no form on this site that collects them, because a review we hold is a review we could edit. If the report was thin, or a section came back pending, say that too; the pending sections are documented on the free vehicle history report page and we would rather be criticised accurately than praised vaguely.
